The Curious Art of Talking to Inanimate Objects

You stub your toe and yell at the table. You tell your plants they’re doing great. Maybe you even negotiate with your WiFi when it’s acting up. But why do we do this? And if objects could talk back, what would they say?

The pets in this house are pretty talkative. You can see what they mean or want just by looking at them. Their eyes grow bigger or become smaller. If they’re confused, they look like Alexander Graham Bell’s grandfather clock 😂! They’ll tell you if they’ve pooped. If they’re hungry and when it’s time to go out or to bed.

But inanimate objects? I wonder what they’re thinking…

If my couch could talk

It would most likely say, “get up and do something! I need my rest”. I mean, I do get up – a lot. I spend a fair time making those pancakes that I like to remind you of. But then I sit on the couch and eat. And if you’re a movie buff and have cuddly pets and boyfriend, it’s pretty easy to get stuck here. That is also why I plan to write a blog post about the art of procrastination 😂. Who knows when that will show up?

A typical day on the couch looks like this

My pots and pans (besides the one I make pancakes in) are probably wondering why I don’t use those enough. They’re probably feeling a bit left out. My bed is asking, why is it so hairy? My wardrobe is probably wondering why I don’t have a fancy dress. The air fryer could use some more tofu in its life.

Well the answer is – I’m just too busy making pancakes! Complain all you want I say. Change is not very likely to happen here. That’s what you get when you’re as flimsy and whimsy as me. And busy with writing, working and whatever else you can think of.

But I think this life is great. It would be fun, though if I could really hear them speak. Wouldn’t you?
