This is not a prompt or a blogging challenge. It’s something I came up with and I’d like to share it with you. It might be long and also super short, but I really do recommend you read it all, and then tell me what you think of this story I’m about to share.
I personally believe that this story is a miracle sent from above, because I feel the universe pulling me towards something incredible, if I play my cards right. Somewhere out there, this story has some truth to it, and the couple that will get this magic, absolutely deserves it!
Here we go:
She could not believe it. There he was. It’s been years since she saw him last, but she never had stopped thinking about him nonetheless. Lisa was the daughter of an important leader of a flight school. The year is somewhere in the late 50’s or early 60’s, but Lisa was put in this setting as if she’d traveled through time and ended up in a post war setting.
The flight school was somewhere in a European city. It was summer and the temperature was perfect. It was green everywhere, and lots of trees and bushes blooming. To get to the flight school, you had to walk up along a dirt road, that should have been paved ages ago. There was a shortcut up from the village, of course – but somehow that road was never taken. It had too many risks. Like facing the guardians or the Eyes from the Handmaid’s Tale. You only took that road if you were desperate to get home to your room as quickly as possible.
At the flight school, there were a lot of men training to be pilots. They lived in dorms where they had all the necessary things in their rooms. There also were a lot of women living and working there, but what they actually did there was a bit unknown. It would all become a lot more clear, though.
Even Lisa did not know her role. Only that she was the daughter of this “Commander” or principal of the school. Lisa somehow knew that she was not the biological daughter of this Principal. She knew she must have come from some other place that was not here. The reason she knew? She was an obvious tomboy, that kept her hair short and dressed only in manly clothes, even though she was an adult, and somehow this was ok by everybody. Her age, she did not know. She felt as if she could be 45 as well a 19. But him? He was a few months away from turning 35. And he was there. But how did he end up there?
Love at first sight, if there even is such a thing?
She first saw him behind the counter of a small, dimly lit restaurant — sleeves rolled up, a smudge of flour on his cheek, and a quiet focus that made everything else blur. She came in for dinner but left with his voice etched into her mind. Over a few visits, they started talking: first about the food, then music, books, late-night thoughts. For her, it was instant — a pull she couldn’t explain. For him, it was flattering, overwhelming, maybe too much too fast.
One day, he wasn’t there. Then another. No call, no message, just absence where connection had begun to bloom. She checked back once or twice, waited longer than she admits. Eventually, she understood — not all stories are meant to be finished. Some just stop, mid-sentence. But Lisa refused to let him go.
Years had passed and Lisa had tried to get in touch to no avail. But suddenly, about 5 years later – there he was. He had applied to the flight school and got in. Lisa did not know what to do with herself when she saw him, but when he saw her, the most unexpected thing happened that she had no idea was coming.
He told her, out of the blue that he was sorry about how things ended and that he never forgot about her. He wondered if she was single, what she had been doing these past years and she told him all about it. The ups and downs, and the longing for a better future and the feeling about being stuck with no way out.
And then Lisa told him about how she’s never forgot about him either. How she wanted to apologize for being to much for him and that she wanted to know why he just vanished out of her life like that. He gave her the reason and it made sense. It was all a misunderstanding and he was the one who had misunderstood everything. And Lisa had no way to tell him and he refused to listen when he had seen her message attempts through the years.
They talked, for hours and hours. About relationships and it turns out that Ken, which was his name, short for Kenneth had been in various relationships that had been one shit show after the next. The women in his life were weird, in a bad way. Jealous, obnoxious and not accepting him for who he was. Not seeing his struggles and they refused to help him become a better person.
Lisa knew from the start that Ken needed help, and even though she tried to tell him that, he did not understand what she had meant. Lisa had a way of seeing men in his position, but the men she met rarely understood her gift. And neither did Ken.
Lisa saw him for who he was and accepted him wholeheartedly. Like nobody else has ever done before, except for maybe his parents and his sister and a few friends. Ken’s love life was bad and he had given up on it now, even though he really deserved to be loved by somebody worthy of him.
When Ken saw Lisa again after all these years, he could not wait to kiss her, hug her and tell her that he’s all hers, and Lisa had waited for years to hear those words from him.
They finally kissed. They finally had sex, and it was amazing. They did it in Lisas room, which was placed in a house, a little bit secluded from the main buildings on the property. After the fantastic lovemaking, they ate something out of the fridge in their underwear and laughed and told stories, kissed and… yeah, they had an amazing time.
Time passed.
They’d been together now for a few weeks, or maybe months. It was hard to tell. Their happiness was always there in the background, but also as time went on, Ken’s mental struggles started to surface. And it was hard. They did not really fight about it, but they misunderstood each other a few times too many.
Ken usually started to panic and cry and Lisa did everything she could to comfort him and listen to what he had to say, but sometimes it was like talking to a wall. He did not understand her. Not at all, when it was at its worst. But she was there for him, through it all, because she knew she had to be there for him. She knew, that if she left, he would be more than heartbroken.
Lisa was not perfect either. She made some mistakes, but nonetheless, she refused to give up on him and on their relationship. It was like magic, the whole thing. Like a little bird kept whispering in her ear on what to do to succeed and she got visions of the future and she knew she had to do what the voice told her, without being crazy. The magic was indeed real.
But instead of she leaving, he did. Ken got an opportunity to train to be a pilot somewhere else and if he succeeded, he’d leave with a better outcome than when he came in. Lisa and Ken had no idea when they’d see each other again. It could be months or maybe even years. Perhaps never again. Lisa accepted it, because she knew in her heart that he would come back, and she would wait for him no matter how long it would take for him to return to her. She packed him his things.
The school was run like Gilead in the Handmaid’s Tale. Life was rough, and women had no real rights. They were supposed to be there as servants to the men in many shapes, but still, nobody was forced to get pregnant and there was no rape. Life was just rough, but the women at the flight school had it good, and Lisa, being the Principal’s daughter had it even better. The servants, or “the Marthas” as they are known in that other story, helped Lisa many times to “escape” reality and sneak in and out of the main house when it was needed. Sometimes they helped Ken to sneak in and out as well too.
Sometimes, Lisa was ordered to be in the main house for a while, because the Principal wanted keep tabs on her, but all he really did was sit in the hallway reading a news paper, and smoking a pipe. It was the guards that kept tabs on her, which is why it was not a good idea to take the shortcut from the village. You were bound to get caught if you did, and she knew she’d had to say goodbye to Ken forever, most likely.
Lisas father was a really tough man. Cold as well and most often said nothing. He mostly just grunted and looked disappointed. Not like the father she remembers having from another time.
Her real father, and mother were kind people, accepting and helpful. These parents saw her as a failed, but still a prized possession that should really be guarded, even though Lisa was not that well guarded for some strange reason.
The principal had just hoped she’d be married off, but probably never to a pilot of this flight school. Nope, that man would never be good enough for her. She needed something better. And better, is just what Ken got, even though the principal and Lisas mother in this story never even knew that Lisa and Ken was in a very serious relationship. Lisa had managed to hide that fact from them all this time. And for that she was proud.
Lisa continued to pack his things. There were only a few things that he would need. A toothbrush, some toothpaste, something to shave with and shaving cream and some pills used to replace toothpaste in a pinch when you had bad breath or something. The clothes and food he’d get from that other place he was going to.
They were not allowed to have personal belongings with them, but that was fine with most of the pilots, and even for Ken. He could only think of his beloved Lisa, even though he was not allowed to bring a photo of her.
Ken left and Lisa missed him like crazy. One day felt like a lifetime, and perhaps it was? The thing is that the story does not end here. It actually begins here. Why, you may wonder? Well, because only after one day – Ken returned.
When he did so, he was a captain of sorts. He has shaved is hair and grown a little beard and he had a Captains uniform on. Lisa could not believe her eyes. Had it only been a day? And yes, it had only been a day.
But not for Ken.

For him, he’s been away a long time, training to become a captain of all the pilots and he had succeeded. He also had gone through therapy and knew how he should handle himself and relationships with primarily Lisa, but also other women if they’d ever break up.
They kissed, laughed and made love, multiple times. Lisa could not believe he had shaved his head and grown a beard, but he did. He also stopped wearing his glasses. She continued to miss him wearing glasses but he was such a good looker either way, that honestly she did not care. All that mattered was the he was there, and he belonged to her. And she belonged to him.
Afterwards, they wrote a contract of sorts, something that Ken’s therapist had recommended so that they would both be able to work together to form the most incredible relationship they could, and Lisa happily accepted. They compromised on terms, followed them, of course, and they were both happy.
And I believe they lived happily ever after, but I’m not sure.
By this time, I had woken up from this wonderful dream and hoped that this would indeed be a future for Lisa and Ken, should they ever meet again.
It’s been a while since I wrote this now, but I’d love to hear your feedback on it, so please leave a comment below and share this post around if you loved it as much as I did writing it. Thanks! ❤️
