Culture Shock Moments That Would Confuse an Alien

The talk of the possibility of aliens existing never stops to amaze people around the world, including me. I don’t know if aliens are already here. Hey, maybe I am one? That would sure explain a lot πŸ˜‚.

If an alien were to visit our Planet Earth, they’d probably freak out and take the first train back home. But why would they do that? Well, it would most likely not be about our technology or space travel but human behavior that we exhibit everyday.

Like clapping, eating spicy food and engage in bizarre rituals that make no logical sense. If you’ve ever stopped to think about some of our customs, you might realize that, to an outsider, Earth is just one giant, confusing reality show.

Clapping: The Universal Ritual of Slapping Our Hands Together to Show Approval

Imagine an alien watching humans randomly smack their hands together in sync to express joy. Why do we do this? Why is it sometimes appropriate (concerts, speeches) but other times rude (in the middle of a funeral)?

Personally I think clapping hurts my hands if I do it too much. Usually I only clap for a short while, like when I meet a kid that’s super happy about something or when I’ve gotten absolutely great news. Otherwise, I leave the clapping to those who have the strength to do it more often.

Eating Spicy Food for Fun (Even When It Hurts)

Humans voluntarily consume food that sets their mouths on fire, makes them sweat, and sometimes even causes physical painβ€”yet they love it. An alien would assume we’re being poisoned, but no, we call it β€œflavor.”

Perhaps this is what makes me an alien? I really dislike spicy food, like so many ‘normal’ people should do in my opinion πŸ˜‚. Ok, not to sound evil or anything, but I prefer my pancakes, ok? I’m glad that people are allowed to have preferences and if you like spicy food – keep on eating it and enjoy it!

Just leave the cilantro out of it πŸ˜‚. You can keep that as well. Who in their right mind would ever eat something willingly that tastes like soap?

An alien is eating hot spicy chicken wings on Hot Ones, but the host of the show is nowhere to be seen πŸ˜‚

Laughingβ€”A Bizarre Noise We Make When We’re Happy (Or Uncomfortable)

An alien might think humans are having a sudden breathing malfunction every time they laugh. Also, why do we laugh when we’re nervous or to fill awkward silence? That’s suspicious.

I laugh a lot, because I often see so many funny things in my everyday life. Like funny movies, memes and not to mention all the crazy shit our pets do. The other day, one of the cats locked herself in a cupboard and couldn’t get out! It was so freaking funny when we realized she got into it and closed the door behind her 😝.

Wearing Different Clothes for Different Occasions (Even When They’re Uncomfortable)

We have entire sets of clothes we wear only at weddings, funerals, or in officesβ€”sometimes they’re tight, itchy, or impossible to move in. If comfort is key to survival, why do we squeeze into painful shoes and ties? If I should get personal again, I do prefer wearing comfy clothes at all times.

Sure, I’m a girl, but give me a pair of sweatpants and a huge t-shirt and we’re game. That is not suitable for a party, though but I rarely have reasons to go to parties and when I do, general clothes are often fine and that makes me happy. I spill stuff on my clothes constantly anyway and it’s not like I’m standing there flippin’ pancakes in a fancy dress that I don’t even own. I like to wear pants with pockets, please.

Skinny jeans and a big belly is uncomfortable for anybody, even for aliens I believe

Reality TV: Watching Other Humans Do Things… But More Dramatically

Aliens might assume humans are watching historical footage or a documentary, only to realize it’s a group of people screaming over who stole their protein shake in a house they chose to live in together.

No to also mention the whole ordeal with people saying – “I’M STARVING!” and then they eat half a leaf of salad and nothing more. Or they leave without paying, order a burger without taking a single bite. I’m not the only one who notices this, right? It’s so apparent in almost every single TV show and movie ever. What if the aliens thought that is how you behave in a restaurant? They’d be super confused, right? πŸ˜‚.

The Concept of β€œSaving Room for Dessert”

Humans claim they’re β€œtoo full” to finish their meal but will magically have space for a slice of cake. Aliens might conclude we have a separate stomach compartment specifically for sugar.

And wouldn’t that be great to have? What if we humans could eat all the sugary pancakes we wanted, without gaining a single kilo of weight? That’d be great, right?

The Tooth Fairyβ€”A Tiny Human-Like Creature That Pays Children for Their Lost Teeth

Why do we tell kids a mysterious being sneaks into their room at night to take their fallen body parts… and then leaves them money? Sounds like an intergalactic black market.

And on this point, I can see their Point of View. I never thought of it as a kid. I was just happy to get paid or getting something else. As a kid, I never reflected over much to be honest. I just was busy being a kid and living my life, trying to avoid boring shit and procrastinating in front of the tv like so many kids have done.

I love the aspect of humanity when it seems like we are a lot alike, even though we’re all different. There are some busy bees out there and also a bunch of lazy pancake flipper’s like me and that makes me so happy and pleased to read. It makes making connections with others easier as well.

If the aliens would steal the teeth from kids themselves, this is how I imagine it would look

The Gym: Paying to Lift Heavy Things and Run in Place

Aliens might wonder why humans intentionally engage in strenuous labor while machines do all the actual work for them. If movement is necessary for survival, why not just chase food? I can agree on this statement as well.

For me, I’m happy if I get my steps in. I’ve never liked going to the gym and I don’t know of anybody who really does, to be honest. They do it because it gives great results, both for health and weight.

I focus on getting my steps and that is lovely when I get the chance. It improves my sleep and I get a good feeling in my body as well. I can’t wait until spring and summer are here again, though. It’s always nicer to be outside when the weather is pleasant.

Celebrating Birthdays (And the Fear of Getting Older)

Once a year, humans gather to acknowledge another rotation around the sun by placing flaming sticks on a cake and singing to the person who had no control over being born. Some enjoy it, others panic about aging. Makes no sense.

I personally love birthdays! I love opening presents and wishing for things and I look forward to every year. Not to mention Christmas! I’m still a kid at heart there and that will most likely never stop. Tell me in the comments if you’re a kid at heart too, appreciating getting gifts on your birthday. I’d love to know if I’m alone or not regarding that inside the blogosphere.

Standing in Line and Getting Irrationally Angry at β€œLine Cutters”

Aliens might assume humans have a strict, invisible force field guiding them into single-file formations. But bewareβ€”the moment someone breaks the sacred order, chaos ensues. πŸ˜‚ this is so funny!

A lot of countries look at standing in line differently, so I guess it depends on what country these aliens should visit. I have a certain number of friends from Scandinavia and they say that standing in line is like hardcore religion. If you break the line, you’ll go to hell or something.

Other countries are more lax with that rule, and in others it’s complete chaos instead. Standing in line, though is boring, rough and hard but it’s part of everyday life for many. There are workarounds, though and I try and find them as often as possible. Like shopping when nobody else does. That’s a great life hack!

This is what some people would describe as hell, waiting in line at the DMV πŸ˜‚

Final thoughts about alien culture shocks

Perhaps you could tell that I had a little bit of help using AI again in this post, but I had no idea where to start and how to move on. My mind is elsewhere most of the time and even though I consider myself to be a totally curious whack ball at times, I sometimes need a kick in the boot to get me started. Perhaps aliens would regard our use of AI as a bit of a culture shock these days too? I certainly think that’s a valid point because using AI has its downsides.

It sure took a while to get the images right in this post, and some were just pure garbage, but hey – we got a great post out of it, right? Well, now I’m off to make some pancakes for lunch and I’ll see you guys in the comment section.
