“You need a man in your life!”, yelled her mother. You have to hurry to get pregnant, make me some grandkids and settle down. Sarah thought to herself “Such bullsh*t”. I do not need a man. At least not one with two legs and a penis. I don’t understand that statement. And why do I have to have kids? My siblings have 6 between them. Isn’t that enough? Apparently not.
Things were always like this with her mother. Or with basically everybody she met. No matter if it was a stranger on a train or the guy that sells flowers by the subway, people seemed to have a tattoo on their forehead saying that she needs a man in her life. But Sarah knew that that is not the case. Especially not after all the failed relationships she’s been through.
“Remember that narcissistic asshole that almost ruined me?”, Sarah told her mother. “Well, he was lovely.” The mother said. Sarah rolled her eyes and started to get ready to leave. Her mother kept on, yelling garbage towards her, but she put her jacket on, her shoes and she checked her pockets so that she had everything she needed with her. Then she opened the door and slammed it behind her.
On the subway back to her place, she stared out the window, feeling angry, sad, annoyed. When she looked over at the other passengers, there was that tattoo on their forehead again, screaming “You need a man in your life!”. Sarah stared out the window again. About 20 minutes later, she got a feeling that she was gonna walk the rest of the way home. And so she got up and walked off at a station she’s never been to before. Then she realized as well, that she was at the other side of town. She went the wrong way! She didn’t pay attention to the signs of where the subway was heading. She was too busy dealing with this “man” stuff.
Anyway, she walked up because she felt like just walking for a while. When she got up from the subway station, it was a busy street. She had the choice of going either to the right or the left. She chose the left.
After she’s been walking for a while, she noticed a sign pointing towards a shelter for dogs. Of course she felt the urge to go there, because she’s never been inside one. When she got there, all the dogs in their cages barked and barked. She walked slowly, looking at the dogs. They came in all the different sizes, from pugs and chihuahuas to Irish Wolfhounds. When she saw that shaggy giant, she stopped and stared at him. Cormac was his name. He was 3 years old.
The sign said that he was the perfect dog with no issues. He likes to sleep a lot, cuddle and play with cats. “That’s great”, Sarah thought. “My cat could use a shaggy friend”. So she adopted him and took him home on the spot.
So what happened then? Well, I’ll tell you. You might not believe this, though but when she rescued Cormac, she also found her soulmate. Oh, how? When? Where? Well, the soulmate was not a man with two legs and a penis. Nope, Cormac was her soulmate.
When she looked deeply in his eyes, she saw the world. She felt calm, focused and she experienced such a happiness she’s never felt before, and it was real. Cormac provided it.
Cormac lived to be 13, which is unheard of almost for such a giant dog, but during all those years together, Cormac and Sarah were as one. She took him with her everywhere she went. Luckily he could be with her at work, and her family loved dogs. When her family met Cormac for the first time ever, something magical happened. People stopped saying that she needs a man in her life. Instead it all changed to “you’ve found your man!” It was the same with the tattooed people she saw everywhere she went. No more need or want. Now it’s the time for calm, peace and complete love.
When Cormac died, Sarah contacted a breeder within the Irish Wolfhound breed and she found a new love of her life. This time it was a female called Siobhán, of course.
And their love story is just beginning.
