It’s been a while since I last answered a daily prompt from WordPress themselves, but I was already thinking of writing something that this particular question asks, so let’s dive right into it.
I’m so proud of where I come from, and for the family members I have.
I’ve always loved to be a part of my family. I really see them as something very special, especially when it comes to grand parents, aunts and uncles etc. Today I am even more grateful, but I shall keep the reason for that to myself and instead write a little about my beloved family members, that are both here and on the other side. I’m doing this because I love them all so much.
Unfortunately, all my grandparents and great grandparents have moved on to the other side. It’s been almost 10 years since my grandpa on my mother’s side passed, and it feels so weird whenever I visit their hometown and they are not physically there. Spiritually I know they’re lurking somewhere.
When I was a kid, I had a very special relationship with my maternal great grandmother. It took a while though before I even knew that she was a part of our family because I don’t remember seeing her that much before I turned 10, even though she lived in the same village. I even used to prank call her sometimes, but when I realized that she was really great and wonderful, we clicked and from then on, she was my rock, my everything.
She was the only person in the whole family that was truly respectful and understanding of me and my weirdness. She never questioned me, always accepted me and was always super-happy to see me. I used to visit her a lot when she was alive. Every chance I got, I went to her place and was offered homemade ice cream and cookies etc that she’d baked. And then we talked for hours.
She was the absolute best.
My maternal Grandpa, or her son was also something hugely special. He was so loved by everything and everyone. He was funny, smart, witty and just amazing to be around. In some strange way, the smoking man from the X – Files reminds me a lot of him. Maybe because my maternal grandpa also smoked like a chimney. Both him and his wife (my maternal grandmother) got lung cancer due to smoking, and if it wasn’t for the cigarettes, all the family members are convinced that they’d both live far into their 90’s.
My maternal grandma passed away far too soon, in her 70’s, just like my paternal grandma. My paternal grandma was the first one to go, and I still haven’t really gotten over her dying, even though I was not that close to her. She was a difficult person, always questioning everything and disliking basically everything. But she was still so kind, loving and she was like a maid or something. She always did everything, all the cooking, laundry and whatever else you could think of that a woman should do in the 20th century. She never ate with the family, because she wanted to make sure that we were all served and ate well before it was her turn to eat.
I loved her, dearly even though she was pretty “difficult”, but she had her reasons for being so. Apparently her life had been pretty tough. She passed away so soon, and I don’t think I’ll ever get over it, truly.
My maternal grandma was also amazing. She was so kind, honest and funny. She was like the perfect grandma. I’ve inherited so many things from her, both in good ways and bad. She suffered a lot from different health issues and I have the same problems. My name today is a huge gratification to her, and I’ve always wanted to share her name and for almost 20 years – I have. I changed my name many years back and added hers into mine.
My paternal grandpa was absolutely hilarious! Very talented and funny. There’s just not much more than that to tell about him, really because he was just such a hoot. He loved to chat with friends and watch old videos about what he used to work with when he was younger, and he often spoke of how it was back then.
It’s so empty without them here, but I still feel so blessed
It’s a miracle almost to me that I had such great grandparents and great grandparents. My heritage is a true blessing. they loved me so much when they were alive and I still love them so incredibly much. I do hope I’ll get to see them again someday.
Visiting my grandparents and great maternal grandmother was something I viewed as total luxury. I thought for years that I was a millionaire due to all the love and gratitude we shared and in a way, I still feel like one, because it was just so beautiful to have that in my life.
I love you all, so very much ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
