“Where do we go from here?” | A short story

This is another short story, that I dreamed up last night or so. It’s too good not to write down. Some details are missing, so I shall fill them in as best as I can. Some details have also been removed.

Please observe that I’m technically still on a blog hiatus. Hopefully I will return soon enough with more posts, but I still have some shit to figure out here. Meanwhile, I shall give you this story. Please like, leave a comment and subscribe if you’re new here.

Let’s begin!

Sarah, who’s a regular teenager, really – is bullied. She’s in her senior year of High School and she is heavily bullied by all her classmates, and really the entire school as well. The worst of them is Tommy. He’s a classmate. He’s done so many pranks that Sarah had stopped counting, but the worst had a theme. Now, these are some details that should be read with some discretion, since they are not very nice. You have been warned.

The worst thing that Tommy did was during all the school trips. One way or another it ended with Sarah having very wet and smelling clothes and being embarrassed over what had occurred. He, along with some of the other classmates tried to think of the worst, but ultimately the best prank and this is what they came up with. The ultimate goal was to get her as wet as possible in some way and preferably smelly. That meant that Tommy threw up on her, multiple times and then laughed about it. He also spit on her after pouring some colored liquids on her that smelled like a toilet or perhaps a sewer. This happened often, but the teachers did nothing. Absolutely nothing.

The story gets better though. Somehow, some way, Sarah managed to get a boyfriend. He was of Indian descent and very tall for an Indian boy. He was nice, friendly and supportive of Sarah and while they were together, the bullies let her be. They mocked their relationship of course, because it was so weird that she managed to get a boyfriend, and worse – of Indian descent! Yes, the school was very racist and this “Indian boy” was the only non-white person in the entire school, but they never bullied him, they just ignored him.

When Sarah and her boyfriend kissed, it was also very weird indeed. He always kissed her on the nose, and she’d kiss his cheek or chin. They somehow never managed to kiss on the lips, due to his height, which was really just a very bad excuse. He wasn’t that tall, but he sort of refused to bend down properly to kiss her on the mouth. Sarah didn’t mind it, though. She was happy to have a friend, and a person she could call a boyfriend. They had so much fun together!

One day, Sarah cut her hair short, like a boy almost. She did it because she’d always wondered what it would be like to have such short hair. She didn’t do anything special to her hair either when it was long. It was either free and loose or up in a ponytail. She was pretty proud of her haircut, but her boyfriend did not approve and broke up with her due to that, which was really a shame since he was so nice to her in other ways.

Then came graduation, and the years passed. Sarah lived pretty near the school, and during her spare time, she’d been working part time at a tattoo place. Sarah loved to draw and she did some pretty cool tattoos as well. Since the years had gone, she was now a renowned tattoo artist, and in that same location that she’d train to become one, she’d turned into a very cool place that was really popular. It was a combined tattoo parlor, with a bakery and a library. So you could come there, have a cinnamon bun, a tattoo and read a book for free at the same time. It was a really cool concept.

One day, Sarah had to go to the doctor’s office. There had been a mix up with the doctor she was supposed to meet, so another doctor helped her. She sat herself on the bed. The room was very large and the door was still open into it. When she looked outside, she saw a male doctor sitting by his computer. She’d seen this doctor before, but then she did not know that he was a doctor. He’d come into her bakery to read a little, but never to get a tattoo. He came there for the fresh baked goods! Sarah thought he was so gorgeous and had a secret crush on him. Now she knew his name, Nicholas Newsome. “It should have been Nicholas Handsome”, she secretly thought and laughed to herself.

Now, sitting on that bed in the doctor’s office and looking straight at him in a setting that seemed too good to be true, their eyes met, multiple times. Then she had her appointment with the door closed, but at least, now Sarah knew that this guy was a doctor. And she knew his name.

A few weeks went by without this guy coming to the bakery for his usual stuff, but Sarah wasn’t concerned. She was busy organizing a competition. Yeah, Sarah was a busy person. Besides all the stuff that went on in the tattoo and bakery/library place, she also made movies in her spare time. Often hand drawn cartoons, and sometimes they were inspired by Japanese Anime. This competition was a cartoon film festival, where people who’d made their own movies had participated. This year was pretty different, though because Sarah herself made such a beautiful masterpiece that she won basically every vote there was.

It was filled with magic and Sarah could not believe the craze around her little cartoon. After she’d won the award for the best short film, she saw that doctor guy again and what happened next was somewhat of a blur. He got up on stage in front of everybody and told them that he’s been in love with Sarah from the first moment they met. Sarah could not believe it, and neither could I, because the rest of the details I won’t share…

This story really had no real ending either. Unfortunately I woke up before they got to the kissing. I do remember that Sarah was so shocked that she didn’t realize that it was her that this guy was talking about. The last thing I remember was Sarah saying “I want somebody to crush on me too”, and her friends laughing because they knew it was about her all along.

Dreams are funny that way, aren’t they?
